Maxtor Hard Disk Data Recovery Problems

Maxtor U01E100 100GB External Hard Drive USB 2.0
I checked my Maxtor hard drive today, the external one, and I saw that its USB connector had a few bent wires on it. So I went ahead and corrected them on my own, manually trying to straighten the connectors. I shouldn’t have done this because now when I use my Maxtor hard drive I get a “Power surge on the port hub” message. When the hard drive is plugged on my computer, the power light is no longer turning on and I hear the disk inside spinning as if trying to start but can’t. I am afraid that I screwed up my hard drive and will possibly lose all the data I have inside.

Maxtor Maxline II 320GB ATA/ 133 HDD, 3.5″ IDE Hard Drive
I just bought a new desktop computer that comes in semi-barebone form. This means that the machine I got only came with a few things specifically a motherboard and a RAM. So I went ahead and got myself a Maxtor Maxline II 320GB ATA/ 133 HDD, 3.5″ IDE Hard Drive and installed in on my new computer. I also got a video card that I installed on my own. Everything installed okay and PC worked for 4 months until I started having problems. The thing is the hard drive that I got has a capacity of 200 GB but when I now it only has a capacity of only 32 GB and although the PC boots up all user data is missing. I have tried switching cables and also changing settings but nothing works. At present, I use the absolute correct setting and I made the hard drive as the master drive while the CD drive as the slave drive. I ensured that the hard drive is connected directly to the motherboard, which is the blue cable connected to the board. In terms of the power connector, I connected using P4 because P2 is for disk drive while P3 is not connected. I am not sure what uses P1. My machine is a Gateway E PC System.
